This is now a multi million-ringgit business in developed countries but not yet in Malaysia. Why? Well, most classic car owners in Malaysia cannot afford the high cost of parts, bodywork, paint and some of the classic car owners that can afford it want a short cut job just enough for them to parade their classic car on a drive or when friends come over to admire their ‘classic babe’.
The classic car movement in Malaysia is however strong and growing and new talent are emerging and as well restored cars start fetching good prices the need for more one-stop ‘restoration’ centers that can be ‘trusted’ is needed despite the many that already exist around the country.
Carcraft is a new one stop classic car restoration outlet started by a passionate classic car owner, Desmond. His objective is to prevent classic car owners from being ‘played’ and losing lots of money by the many shoddy operators we have in Malaysia.
Through his own bad experience of trying to restore 5 classic cars, the idea to start a ‘one stop restoration center’, Carcraft was born. It is brand new and ready to serve a new community of car lovers that want an honest job done. Located at No.29 along Jalan Industri, in USJ1/10, 47620, Subang, Carcraft may be new but its master mechanic Arvind has been working on old cars for years.
Classic car restoration is the process by which the car is returned to its former glory and splendor. With the right ‘woman’ standing behind the ‘classic car owner’ restoring classic cars can be a memorable and enjoyable experience.
When restoring a classic car in Malaysia, a major part is the bodywork and restoring the lines back to its seductive glory as we see in this Volvo Amazon, Alfa GTV and Ford Escort Mk1. Rusty or damaged body panels should be replaced and the biggest challenge lies in finding replacement panels or a painter that can bring the rusted panel back to life.
The engine is next and as the heart of the car so it is advisable that a well trained mechanic is given the responsibility of getting it right the first time.
Once the engine starts smoothly, the gearbox is the second part which needs to be checked. Now comes the electrics. An easy task for a trained person as old cars have simple electronics and zero tech.
Now you are ready for the upholstery. There are many well recommended shops one can visit but to get it right is the issue. This is why Carcraft has opened for business, to take away all the worry of finding the right restoration partners for your classic car. Let them take on the work.

Hello Sir,
My name is Muhamad Khushairi and I owned a classic Mitsubishi Galant 1976, brown colour, 5 speed, 1.6 cc. Basically, it was a car inherited from my father with original stock and without any modification. At present, the body of the car is still in good condition and the motor can still running and moving. Still, as the time goes by, the rust starts to eat up from inside out. I wish to restore it to its former glory but haven’t had the time, money and clue of such workshop that capable of doing it.
After so many years and recent research,I come across this website and I think maybe it is time to do something about the car. Therefore, I would very much appreciated if you could advise me the way forward to restore the car. In terms of cost, how much the expenses will be for the whole restoration? A ball park figure should help me in budgeting my expenses accordingly.
I wish to hear from you soon and thank you for spending some of your valuable time in reading this comments.
Thanks & regards,
Khushairi
Hi Khushairi. thank you for reaching out to us and we are happy to hear that you are keen to restore your classic 1976 Galant. Without inspecting your car, we are making a guess estimate here. You will need about RM8,000 for a proper paint job restoration with total rust removal. Then you need to look at other work like interior upholstery which might cost anywhere between RM2,000 to RM4,000 depending on material used and then wear and tear items like bushings, rubber parts and more which your mechanic will be able to advise you.
Good luck and if you need a recommendation on where to go to get the work done, contact us. Stay safe.
