Malaysian car fans are by now aware that Perodua is going to show something new later this week at the autoshow. But what it is?
Some say it’s an SUV or crossover. But there are other possibilities.
It could be a new Alza. This compact MPV is the only vehicle in the Perodua stable that hasn’t a tech injection into its drivetrain. Could that 1.5-litre Dual VVTi engine find its way into the 7-seater?
Another likelihood is a new full-spec Axia with the 1.3-litre engine. The Axia still brings in lots of demand, but we can only imagine more ‘first-car’ owners would pay extra for a little more power.
It could also be a new 1.3 variant of the Bezza or Myvi. If it were up to me, this is what I would do. An ‘Advance’ spec Myvi with all the safety and features but with the 1.3-litre engine. That would be a sweet deal for many Malaysians, and naturally, relieve some of the demand for the 1.5-litre variant.
Of course, there’s that little hopeful voice inside me hoping it’s a 1.5-litre Myvi with a 5-speed manual gearbox! We had this in the previous generation Myvi, but it is a spec that no longer exists. We doubt it will make a return, but it sure would be swell.
Actually in all likelihood it’s probably going to be a new variant of the Bezza with the same 1.3 engine.
