The online poll launched by Proton on its Facebook page inviting the public to vote for the name of its first SUV has attracted a huge number of responses over its first 9 days. As of Wednesday 11th April, over 69,000 Facebook users had taken the poll while the video that is posted with it has been viewed more than 165,000 times. Over 1,000 people also shared the content on their own personal pages, thus increasing the potential reach of the exercise.
“The new SUV is a significant milestone for Proton and therefore we wanted to share it with our fellow Malaysians as it also represents a symbol of national achievement. We did not expect such a big number of responses in such a short time and feel humbled by the interest shown in the first premium C-segment SUV produced by a Malaysian automotive brand,” said Proton VP of Sales and Marketing, Abdul Rashid Musa.
As a token of appreciation to those who take the poll, RM100,000 worth of gift vouchers will be shared among participants. Five winners will also be chosen based on the best reasons given for the name they have voted and their prize package will be a ‘money-can’t-buy’ experience consisting of exclusive VIP invites to the launch as well as the honour of being among the first people to test drive and experience the technology and advanced features of the SUV at Proton’s test track in Shah Alam.
There is also the option of proposing an alternative name for the SUV. Should the alternative name be picked, one lucky winner will be rewarded with a 4D/3N tour package to Hangzhou and Shanghai for two inclusive of a visit to the headquarters of Geely.
“As the official launch date of the SUV approaches, Proton will embark on more activities to build product awareness and excitement among Malaysians. As we have shared in the teaser, the SUV will be equipped with some of the most technologically advanced features like smart voice recognition, 360-degree 3D camera and a host of advanced safety features, like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency brake assist just to name a few. The first product jointly developed with our partner Geely will be the starting point of a new model range for the Company so we want as many people as possible to get up close and take a look at the future of Proton,” Rashid added.
The closing date for submission is 30th April 2018 at 11.59pm and winners will be announced closer to the launch date of the SUV.
