BMW is preparing to release an all new 1-Series hatchback which will share its platform and engines with its front-wheel-drive cousin, the Mini. Designed to challenge the all new VW Golf and Mercedes A-Class this brand-new 2019 BMW 1-Series isn’t really expected to look drastically different to the outbound model. Its new looks will be motivation from the just released 5-Series.
The rather boring looking dashboard in the current model will be dropped in favour of a thoroughly contemporary design, similar to the latest 5 Series’ cabin. A big infotainment screen with a slick selection of dials and knobs around wood and aluminium-effect trim might assist to offer it that all-important upmarket feel.
The engine range will start with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol system to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and the silky-smooth straight-six petrol engine fitted to high-performance M140i models is said to be retired for good. In its place will be a turbo four-cylinder unit to drive all 4 wheels through BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive system.
