Range Rover Velar Price Starts From RM600,000

Bookings have commenced for the road-focused sexiest Land Rover since the Evoque. The British made Indian owned SUV manufacturer will finally launch in Malaysia this much talked about SUV in coming months and its asking price will start from RM600k to RM700,000.

On offer will be one engine option – a 2.0-litre petrol engine in two engine tunes, a 250bhp and a 300bhp version. The petrol engine on the Velar will debut JLR’s new Ingenium petrol powerplant, which is expected to replace the current 240hp, 2.0-litre petrol motor in the manufacturer’s engine line-up. In international markets, this motor is also available in a 300hp state of tune. JLR claims that the new engine delivers up to 25% more power while consuming 15% less fuel.

While Land Rover calls the Velar its most road-focused model, it still comes with the brand’s range of off-road technology. It is equipped with Hill Descent Control (HDC) as standard, the Terrain Response 2 system and an active rear-locking e-differential. A standard ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic is paired with each engine and delivers power to all four wheels.

Pre-orders have already hit a higher than expected figure and get ready to see this sexy SUV in the flesh very soon.

  1. With EEV incentives now taking effect locally, you have to pay at least RM200,000 more for a Velar, compared to BMW X5 hybrid. Style is no doubt expensive, but is it really worth that much? To pay 50% more is quite nonsensical. Velar really is in the company of smaller BMW X4 and Merc GLC Coupe; not BMW X6 nor Merc GLE Coupe. Range Rover needs to have a hybrid strategy in Malaysia. EEV tax incentives seems like our Govt’s gift to the middle class to redress exhorbitant prices for premium cars locally. It is not too loud, so that it wouldn’t backfire politically.

But the premium brands should play along.

  2. The price is ridiculous. The tax seems to be the reason for that price. I am sure they are not selling it at £100k in UK. Everything in this country seems to be only for the super rich. Disgraceful.
