Chinese actor and pop star Han Geng will enter the 2018 Audi R8 LMS Cup. Han will pilot a Hard Memory Hero Super Car Team Audi R8 LMS GT4, entered as part of a previously-announced two-car line-up from official Cup partner NINE Entertainment. The Chinese ace, who competed in last season’s China GT Championship, will face a strong line-up of privateers from Asia, Australia and Europe in the Cup’s seventh season.
“Han Geng is a successful artist and also a great guy, who shares our passion for motorsport. He is a strong addition to our field of dedicated privateer racers for the 2018 Audi R8 LMS Cup. Han Geng, welcome.” said Martin Kuehl, Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia.
Han becomes the first GT4 entrant announced for this year’s all-privateer Cup. The Heilongjiang-born, 33-year-old has produced three music albums and appeared in countless movies – most notably the recently launched The Ex-File 3: The Return of the Exes, which became the fifth-highest grossing Chinese-made film of all time, with a box-office take of over RMB 1.8 billion to date.
Han’s team gets its name from the TV show Hard Memory, billed as “the first hardcore science fiction TV show in China”. Han is both an actor and executive producer of Prisoner of the Air, the first season of Hard Memory. The TV show will be broadcast both online and on TV and is produced by Cup partner NINE Entertainment, which has also confirmed a second Audi R8 LMS GT4 entry to be announced soon.
Strong interest has been fielded for the Audi R8 LMS Cup, both in the GT3 and GT4 categories with full entry details for the Cup’s seventh season to be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2018 Audi R8 LMS Cup gets underway in March at the Adelaide Street Circuit where it makes its Australian debut, followed by races at Germany’s famous Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit and China’s Ningbo and Shanghai race tracks before closing the season at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit.
