Toyota Classics 2017 Raised More Than RM400k in Support of UPM and PEKA

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMW Toyota Motor) was delighted to collect a total of RM406,000 of proceeds for its Toyota Classics Concert, part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The amount collected was more than it has initially projected and will be given to its recipients, Department of Music, Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia (PEKA). Both organizations will receive an equal sum of the money collected from ticket buyers and donation from local companies.

The Department of Music, from UPM aims to empower youth by improving their cognitive skills and enhance emotional, social and mental health through music based activities and performance.

The other recipient, PEKA is an environmental protection organisation, which will be organizing ‘’Save Our Rain Forest Race,’’ a 5 to 10km hiking activity to replant trees of diverse species to create awareness for conservation of our biodiversity.

The Sultan of Selangor, His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah graced the Toyota Classics annual event to an enchanting performance by the London based Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra rendering a string of popular classical music pieces from Beethoven to Mozart.

Dignitaries from numerous foreign missions, notably, the Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr. Makio Miyagawa, British High Commissioner Her Excellency Victoria Marguerite Treadell joined a capacity crowd of classical music lovers at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, last night. They were joined by the Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman; Senior Executive Advisor of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific, Mr. Motonobu Takemoto; Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, Mr. Akio Takeyama; Toyota management from regional office and local management members.

Leading the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra was the Oscar award winning conductor Anthony Weeden, delivered a seamlessly charming repertoire ranging from Mendelssohn’s Midnight Summer Dream to Tchaikovsky’s Romance for Violin & Orchestra. Violin soloist, David Juritz received rave appreciation from the audience with his distinctive and versatile performance. The hall was also filled with songs from Handel and Haydn to the delight of the distinguished patrons and discerning music lovers.

The orchestra, known for its innovative programming of classical music is on a circuit to perform at 6 Asian cities. Malaysia was 5th destination after Brunei Darussalam with Vietnam as their last destination.

Toyota Classics is a musical charity event presented annually by UMW Toyota Motor and Toyota Motor Asia Pacific in Malaysia. Its primary objective is to raise funds for charity and deserving organization and has benefitted 65 charities and worthy community projects to date.
