Think about it. A 3-row SUV with Crossover looks and a frugal powerful 2.2L diesel engine for less than RM180,000. This could well be the next best seller for Mazda Malaysia when they launch this all new CX-8 this year.
With no hint of a replacement Biante MPV on its way, Mazda wants to bring this people carrier with three rows of seating to the ASEAN region and Malaysia will be the first country to receive it right after Australia.
The styling brings new depth and maturity to KODO design and looks very much like the Mazda CX-9.
The CX-8 for Malaysia will initially be fully imported and will carry Australian specifications powered by an advanced version of the SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter clean diesel engine. With Mazda’s unique G-Vectoring Control technology on board, the CX-8 will be a vehicle that drivers and passengers alike will enjoy both around town and on long drives.
Packaging was developed under the human-centered design philosophy, with a focus on ease-of-use as a three-row SUV. 3 different seating variants are available for the second row, providing full seating for up to 6 or 7-persons and allowing customers to prfioritize space or numbers, depending on their needs.
Malaysia will get the 6-seat (with a wide center console in the 2nd row) and the 7-seat variants. Later a 7-seat variant will arrive with a middle row center walk thru feature (just like what the previous Mazda5 MPV had).
Local assembly in Malaysia will start in the early part of 2019 which will bring the selling price down and allow the CX-8 crossover to be sold in the ASEAN region.
