The Toyota GT 86 will compete in the World Rally Championship next year. Dubbed TMG GT86 CS-R3, the car will be built according to R3 regulations and will use the same 2.0-liter boxer engine, it will be rear-wheel drive and will feature a six-speed sequential gearbox. The TMG GT86 CS-R3 will also be available to private competitors and the carmaker will deliver it for the 2015 season.
This rally vehicle will be built by Toyota’s motor sport division, which is based in Germany a.k.a. Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG). Nic Ehlert, TMG’s principal engineer customer motorsport said that the GT86 CS-R3 will be a thrilling car on the rally stages and thanks to the rear-wheel drive we will see some dramatic action on the rally stages, which translates in more entertainment for drivers and fans.
