The quest for more motorcycling talent continues with an unprecedented addition of a new talent development category midway through the 2017 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship season. Beginning Round 6 of the national series which will take place on August 5 and 6 in Jasin, Melaka, the race programme will feature a seventh race class – the Yamaha NVX Challenge.
20 new teenage hopefuls will be taking to the track astride the recently-launched Yamaha NVX 155 scooters, all hoping to follow in the footsteps of current Malaysian international riders such as Khairul Idham Pawi, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, Adam Norrodin and Zulfahmi Khairuddin.
“The Yamaha NVX Challenge will run on the same format as the two existing mono-brand classes. In view of the short preparation time for the riders between the selection and the race, Hong Leong Yamaha had organised a private training session to help the first-time competitors adjust to the rules and conditions of racing on a track,” said Ron Hogg, Director of Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd.
“Cub Prix is all about talent identification and development. The introduction of this new class is in response to increasing interest among youths in the sport of motorcycle racing.”
Fans of the Yamaha NVX 155 can watch the bikes performing on track this weekend at Bandar Jasin Bestari in Melaka this weekend. Spectator entry is free.
