Geely has bought into Proton and all future Proton model’s will probably carry Geely or even Volvo technology (since Geely owns Volvo Cars Sweden). This now frees up the Proton Suzuki agreement which had Suzuki Motors exiting from Malaysia a year ago and Proton rebadging the Suzuki Ertiga MPV last year.
Does this mean Suzuki might return to Malaysia and restart operations? Will this allow Malaysians to buy the all new attractive Suzuki Swift hybrid? Will Suzuki start local assembly operations to gain from the EEV incentives (and be able to sell the new Swift hybrid for less that RM90k) here in Malaysia since there is an assembly plant in Malaysia sitting idle at this moment?
Has the Suzuki brand been somewhat forgotten by Malaysia auto business leaders and this article has woken them up to the realization that there is a good reliable popular Japanese car brand ready for the taking over?
We wait and see what happens in the coming months.
i do hope Suzuki returns
I looking for Suzuki Swift or Suzuki Baleno….
