The Malaysian Super Series (MSS) car competition enters its final round at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this weekend with the championship battle for the premier GT class going to the wire between Hong Kong’s Angus Kirkwood and lady driver Nur Natasha Ida Seatter.
Leading the 19-year old Natasha by a healthy 16 points, Kirkwood will start as firm favourite to join Syafiq Ali of Proton R3 Motorsports and the partnership of Damien Dielenberg and Tommy Lee as champions of 2013. A graduate of the PETRONAS Formula Xperience programme, Natasha is the first ever female Malaysian to compete in the Formula BMW in 2010 before becoming the first female ever to win a race in the Middle East in February 2012 at the Formula FG1000 Gulf Series, which she eventually won that year.
Another Hong Kong driver, Noel Becker is third with 41 points while defending champion Vignesa Moorthy of Singapore is fourth with 35 points. The partnership of Rhommell Singh and Rocky Siow is fifth overall with 33 points.
The championship battle for the other two categories – the Touring Production class and the Malaysian Touring Car Challenge (MTCC) – had been settled in the penultimate round with close friend Damien and Tommy winning the Touring Production championship and Syafiq Ali successfully defending his MTCC crown.
After four rounds Damian and Tommy have collected 115 points, opening an unassailable led over dethroned defending champion, Perajun Krishnan, who has 66 points after four rounds. The partnership of Alan Wong and Chris Tan is third with 59 points. With a collection of 115 points after four rounds, Syafiq Ali is beyond reach of his Proton R3 Motorsports team-mate, James Veerapan who has 70 points. Two-time MSS Champion, Lai Wee Sing is third with 55 points.The event this weekend should also feature the penultimate round of the Asia Classic Car Challenge. Qualifying will be held on Saturday and all races would be held on Sunday. Entrance is free.
