2018 Porsche 911 GT3 Makes Debut at Geneva Motor Show

This year’s Geneva Motor Show sees a great number of performance and sports car being released, and one of them is the new 911 GT3 (991.2). Perhaps the biggest news with the new model is the inclusion of a six-speed manual transmission, which was not available three years ago.

Also, the outgoing 3.8-litre flat-six mill has been replaced with a 4.0-litre flat six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that churns out 500 hp and 460 Nm. With the standard seven-speed PDK, the 911 GT3 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 318 km/h.

With the fun six-speed manual gearbox, the sports car takes half a second longer to complete the century sprint but maxes out at 320 km/h.

Benefiting from Porsche’s experience in motorsports, the chassis of the two-seater sits around 25 mm lower than the 911 Carrera S and has active rear-axle steering, which steers either in the opposite or the same direction as the front wheels, depending on the speed. The dynamic engine mounts and the rear differential lock also improve the GT3’s handling.

When it comes to its appearance, the 911 GT3 underlines its purpose with a new carbon rear wing, along with a lightweight front end and front spoiler that have been optimised for better airflow. The aerodynamic enhancement is also evident on the lightweight rear end with exhaust air openings and on the new diffuser.

The cabin is embellished with a GT sport steering wheel borrowed from the 918 Spyder and sports seats with enhanced seat side bolsters and mechanical fore/aft adjustment.

Porsche offers three additional seat variants for the 911 GT3: the adaptive Sports seats Plus with 18-way electric adjustment; sports bucket seats with folding backrest, integrated thorax airbag and manual fore/aft adjustment; as well as full bucket seats made from light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon-weave finish.

In addition to Porsche Communication Management (PCM) which includes an online navigation module with real-time traffic information, the 911 GT3 is also equipped with the Connect Plus module and the Track Precision app. The latter enables 911 GT3 drivers to display, record and analyse detailed driving data on their smartphone.
