The real star of the ’80s cop show Miami Vice, the white Ferrari Testarossa, is being put up for auction this month. When the series began, producer Michael Mann and crew decided to disguise a Chevrolet Corvette as a Ferrari Daytona, and that was used as the ride of Crockett and Tubbs, the main characters of the show.
By season 3, Miami Vice had such a strong reach that Ferrari themselves agreed to supply 2 Testarossas. These were both metallic black from the factory but were resprayed white for the show. The two were driven mildly on set, mostly for static shots. Specially prepared replicas were used in stunts.
This month, one of those two is being put up for auction. It’s an early variant Mono Specchio (single mirror) with less than 27,000km on the odometer. But even with that weird single mirror, you can’t deny how iconic that shape is.
