Singapore Motorshow 2017 had shiny new metal on display

For a country with one of the highest new car prices in the world, Singaporeans continue to be in love with cars. With new car prices still higher than the rest of the world, cost of ownership on the increase and shortage of parking spaces, this tiny Island nation will continue to consume cars at a steady rate. We however feel that the majority of sales for 2017 will be concentrated on the luxury car market where the wealthy individuals will continue to own and drive what they like and the middle class will move to midrange vehicles as a need for transportation and just that.

The show this year opened on Thursday the 13th of January for a week and the first launch of the day was at the Motor Image stand where the all new Subaru Impreza was unveiled in a sedan and 5-door hatchback form with a brand new Subaru global platform.

Honda unveiled the all new NSX and the new Civic range. They packed their stand with their entire range on sale in Singapore including the Honda Jade.

Mazda unveiled the hardtop MX-5 sports car, the all new CX-9 SUV and the complete Skyactiv sedan range was also on display with their signature red colour.

Range Rover had their drop top Evoque in the signature orange colour. Lexus and Infiniti with right across each other with their spanking brand new colourful coupes, the Lexus RF-Sports and the Infiniti Q60. Infiniti also had their all new crossover the Q30 on display.

Ford, BMW and Mercedes made their presence felt and with the drop top Mustang on display, Ford took more admiring glances that the sexy models posing next to the shiny BMWs.

Audi made a strong showing with Volvo at their side getting more attention with their V90 and S90 luxury cars.

Surprising to see Suzuki with strength still showing the hot selling Swift and pushing hard their new Ignis. KIA motors was right behind them with a full lineup and some interesting new models that have not yet arrived in Malaysia.

Hyundai decided to take their full lineup including the impressive IONIQ to the next hall a level below.

Opel, which is owned by General Motors displayed their range at the main lobby of the mall next door to the main exhibition hall to showcase their range of new stylish designs.

Volkswagen had their complete range on display including the all new Tiguan which will arrive in Malaysia this quarter.

Supercar brands were missing from the show, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin did not make an appearance and the car brands from China gave the show a miss.

Renault had their full range new Megane hatchbacks, sedans and their Koleos SUV.

The Toyota CH-R was unveiled and a price and delivery still pending despite a lot of attention.
