BMW R nineT Scrambler Rolls Into Malaysian Market – RM92,900

BMW Group Malaysia has officially launched the new BMW R nineT Scrambler, a new variant in its Heritage segment that dates back to the original R 68 scrambler that was first introduced in 1951.

Like the R nineT Roadster, the Scrambler features classic proportions highlighted by the circular headlamp, 17-litre fuel tank with aluminium sheet and the slim rear frame that can be dismounted, thereby allowing the bike to be used either by two people or by the rider on their own.

Other eye-catching elements are the dual-row LCD display, anodised air intake and of course the raised exhaust with two vertically arranged rear silencers that produces a sonorous boxer sound and at the same time adheres to the new noise emission regulation ECE R41-04.

Powering the R nineT Scrambler is the familiar 1,170 cc two-cylinder boxer engine that develops 110 hp and 116 Nm of torque. According to BMW, the engine mapping has been redefined to meet the requirements of the EU4 pollutant class. This also enables the bike to achieve a fuel consumption figure of 5.3 litres per 100 km. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox and a universal-shaft drive.

The front suspension of the R nineT Scrambler is a telescopic fork with a spring travel of 125 mm while the rear suspension is a Paralever single-sided swinging arm and a central sprint strut with a spring travel of 140 mm. The bike rides on a 19-inch front wheel with tyre sizes of 120/70-19 at the front and 170/60-17 at the rear.

Good handling qualities aside, the R nineT Scrambler also offers a more relaxed riding position with raised handlebar, slightly reduced seat upholstery and footrests that are positioned somewhat lower and further to the rear.
