The Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid was the first in its class to qualify as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) by the Malaysian government under the National Automotive Policy, when it was launched in April 2015. The incentive was provided to locally assembled model that meets the EEV criteria for a certain period agreed by the government. This has enabled the price of Camry 2.5 Hybrid to be reduced and UMW Toyota Motor has given the full benefits to its customers.
Without the EEV incentive, the actual retail price of the Camry 2.5 Hybrid would be over RM250,000 but the incentive brings it down to around RM175,000. For those who have been wanting to own an executive sedan, now is the best time to buy one as there is a cash rebate of RM8,000 when customers purchase a Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid. Moreover, customers will get the benefit of an advanced hybrid technology. This special offer is available on a limited number of units and while stocks last.
The Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid gives the best of both worlds in terms of powertrain technology – the power of a 2.5-litre petrol engine and the fuel consumption performance of an electric motor. The Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive in the Camry Hybrid is the product of almost 20 years of experience in developing and producing hybrid cars since Toyota introduced the world’s first mass-produced hybrid model in 1997.
Unlike the hybrid systems in models offered by some other brands, the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive could make use of either the engine or electric motor at any time, or even both when conditions require. In this way, the benefits of both power units can be used to maximum advantage to achieve the best driving performance as well as maximum fuel economy.
The system combines output from the 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder petrol engine and a small high-torque electric motor. The system produces a total output of 205 ps with up to 213 Nm of torque available from the engine and 270 Nm from the electric motor. Depending on driving conditions (up to 40 km/h), it is possible to drive only using electric power. This means that no petrol is consumed at all and the car runs quietly, with no exhaust emissions too.
The Camry Hybrid is already more economical than other 2.5-litre sedans with just a petrol engine but to maximise fuel-savings, there is an ECO mode which will enable driving range to be further. As with other Toyota hybrid models, the Camry Hybrid uses an Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) to deliver power to the front wheels. The E-CVT is a power-splitting mechanism which transmits power from the engine to the generator as well as to the wheels. The latest generation of such units developed by Toyota and offers enhanced driving performance, reduced energy drain and lower noise levels.
Unlike some other hybrid models in the market, when the engine automatically shuts down to save fuel, the air-conditioning system operates as normal as the air-conditioner compressor is driven electrically to continue cooling down the incoming air.
The electrical energy is stored in a battery pack which has high energy density and is constantly recharged as the car is in motion or even while braking. Built with high quality standards, owners will have additional peace of mind as the Hybrid battery pack has an 8-year warranty (terms and conditions apply).
All Toyota passenger car models including the Toyota Camry 2.5 Hybrid now come with a 5-year full warranty with no limit on mileage. It is also possible to transfer the warranty if the car changes ownership within the first 5 years.
