In the 1960s, Jaguar planned to build 18 race-ready Lightweight E-Types but only managed to produce 12 total cars with two spare bodies left. These aluminum-bodied Jaguars managed to shed some 250 pounds from the standard E-Type’s curb weight, which brought the final working weight of each “Missing Six” E-Type to around 2,600 pounds.
In 2014, Jag promised to fulfill the original promise of 18 Lightweight E-Types through a re-creation program dubbed “Missing Six.” The six cars were destined to have a sport Lucas fuel injection and a ZF 5-speed gearbox installed.
Today one of these cars will fetch about USD1.7 million and more at auction.
