So you’ve read about how the Chevrolet Cruze Sport set itself apart from the standard version, let’s take a look at what the sedan has under its hood.
The car is powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder ECOTEC engine with Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing and Variable Intake System. The unit churns out 140 PS at 6,200 rpm and 176 Nm of torque at 3,800 rpm, channeled to the front wheels via a six-speed GM Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.
Performance-wise, the Cruze Sport accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds, with a respectable top speed of 190 km/h. According to Chevrolet, the car promises better throttle response through the use of throttle alignment. Additionally, the stainless steel ail filter results in increased power and torque.
While the naturally-aspirated unit puts out a decent performance, it is aging fast and we feel there is no better time for Chevrolet to introduce the new 1.4-litre turbocharged Ecotec mill in Malaysia than now. The unit is smaller yet more powerful and efficient and it will surely give its Japanese counterpart a run for their money.
The current engine is cocooned in a highly-rigid unibody structure, which contains more than 60 percent of high-strength steels. The proven McPherson front strut with anti-roll bar and compound crank type rear suspension have been specifically tuned to contribute to the vehicle’s low center of gravity, balance of ride and responsive handling.
Speaking of which, the steering is electrically power-assisted with the aim to provide the driver with a solid on-center feel.
