Bermaz Motor took a bold step today by introducing diesel powered Mazdas to their line-up. In Japan, Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D powered vehicles enjoy tax rebates and comply with strict exhaust gas regulations without the need for a costly NOx after treatment system.
Beginning today, the Mazda 6 and CX-5 will be offered with the groundbreaking 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D engine, giving Malaysians the option of experiencing the latest in diesel technology. Not only does this engine return a phenomenal 4.7L/100km, but it also produces 420Nm of torque – the kind of power usually found in petrol engines that displace 4 litres.
During our test we found both vehicles surpassed our expectations. The 6 was exceptionally quiet and both had a seemingly endless amount of pulling power, no matter the speed.
For RM161,529 (OTR with insurance), the CX-5 2.2L comes loaded with Mazda’s full suite of i-ACTIVSENSE safety features including Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Smart City Brake Support and Blind Spot Monitoring.
The Mazda 6 2.2L sedan also comes with these features but there’s a Lane Departure Warning System as well. At RM202,830, the Mazda 6 with the Diesel engine is a little pricey, but it seems like a great buy considering how much kit is thrown in.
It should be noted that these vehicles only works with Euro 5 diesels that are now being sold in hundreds of locations throughout the Malaysian peninsula. Bermaz Motor is also testing out the CX-3 with a 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-D engine on Malaysian roads.
