It’s no secret that the Perdana’s guts are Japanese, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that (read our previous article on this topic here). In fact, the powertrain used in the new Perdana is simple enough to be serviced by just about any mechanic in the country. It consists of a naturally-aspirated engine and conventional automatic gearbox – it doesn’t get more straightforward than that. Ten years into the ownership experience if something goes wrong with the engine in the middle of nowhere, you can be sure that you won’t need to hire a tow truck to get it back to KL.
That K24Z2 Engine
Speaking of that Honda powertrain, the K24 engine in here is quite an exciting one. Eager to rev close to 7000RPM and pretty great as a performer as far as modern i-VTEC engines go. It’ll be a breeze in traffic too, and economical if you don’t put your foot down at every opportunity. The absense of turbo lag will also promote better driving behaviour too.
It’s one of the Largest Vehicle in its Class
Despite being based on the Accord, PROTON managed to squeeze quite a lot more out of the chassis. Thanks to PROTON’s engineers and designers, the Perdana is the longest vehicle in its class. It’s even wider and taller than the average D-segment vehicle too.
Modern Fastback Design
As a result of the larger dimensions of the Perdana, PROTON was able to do a lot more in the design department without sacrificing practicality or safety. Minor details aside, there’s no denying that it’s got a very alluring shape. PROTON have managed to integrate a fastback design into a chassis designed for a three-box sedan and they should be commended for their efforts. This is a bodystyle that you see on premium cars like the Jaguar XE and XF, and the Perdana offers it at a fraction of the price.
Three Interior Trim Choices
PROTON claim that they decided not to modify the interior too much due to time constraints, but what they have managed to do is provide three different interior finishes. On the base model, you’ll get a black combination of leather and fabric. The 2.4-litre on the other hand allows you to choose between beige leather or black leather. Not many manufacturers give Malaysians a choice here, but PROTON have taken the effort to.
