Today’s line-up of BMW owned Mini models aren’t really all that “mini” these days. They are all quite generously sized up and sideways and in fact, when compared to the original Mini that inspired them all, they only carry the iconic design language. The new Mini is even larger than the Perodua Myvi and Axia.
Granted, the Mini Countryman is a crossover utility vehicle that’s somewhat larger than the Mini three-door hatchback that is a more direct descendant of the original model. Nonetheless, you could get a complete original Morris Mini inside a brand new Mini Countryman with some internal trim being damaged of course.
This is not too surprising, as the Mini Countryman is 34% longer, 43% wider, and 16% taller than the 1959 Morris Mini Minor.
The gross weight should also be considered as the curb weight of the front-wheel drive Countryman One model is 1,335kg compared to just 620kg for the original Morris Mini.
