Fariqe Hairuman Faces Biggest Challenge in Career

Having won multiple international titles with established racing teams, Malaysia’s top driver Fariqe Hairuman faces his biggest challenge in his racing career this year, as the Johor-born driver seeks to defend his Malaysia Championship Series (MCS) crown with a race car that he developed himself while working independently in sourcing for sponsorship.

The former Asian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) and Japan Super Taikyu champion will also be partnering little-known Hafiz Bachok in trying to retain the Malaysian Touring Car Championship (MTC) crown with Proton R3 Motorsports and its top driver, James Veerapen.

With the same Team PSP, Fariqe competed in the ATCC in 2006 and went on to win the overall crown in the following year. Fariqe continued to race under the PETRONAS banner for the PETRONAS Syntium Team in the Super Taikyu where he became vice champion in 2008 and the overall champion in 2009.

Partnering Veerapen last season, the dynamic duo from Proton R3 Motorsports were in a class of their own in the MTC class as they cruised through the five rounds to win the coveted crown in their Proton Suprima S machine.

Like Fariqe, four-time Malaysian Super Series (MSS) champion, Boy Wong Yew Choong has also been hit by a similar predicament after his team for the past two seasons – Wing Hing Motorsports opted not to compete this year. Competing in the Touring Production for cars above 1800cc category, Boy said that he is realistic about his chances, but declared that his aim is to win this weekend.

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) – the event promoter and organiser for the MCS, is making special hospitality suites available for fans to enjoy the event. Special paddock passes are offered on sale at the entrance of the paddock. The 3-Day Paddock Pass is available for RM85, while fans can also catch the action from the Grandstand for free. Interested fans can also purchase a Paddock Season Card for RM200.
