Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Nurturing the Future of the Nation

For Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, business success and social responsibility go hand in hand. Guided by four core Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars; road safety, the arts and culture, investing in knowledge and corporate volunteering; Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today reaffirmed its commitment to the future of the nation by expanding its involvement with various community groups.

At a special event, Mercedes-Benz today announced contributions of over RM200,000 for initiatives that support that growth and development of Malaysian society.

Speaking at the occasion, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia President and CEO, Dr Claus Weidner said, “CSR is part of our commitment to the Malaysian community. We want to be an enabler for future generations, and contribute to the community in a meaningful way. It is when we help those who are in need that we are truly making a difference in the world. Today marks the launch of a campaign which we hope will enrich the lives of the various groups involved.”

Recipients of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia 2016 sponsorship are, Driven Communications, for its initiative of promoting safe road travels; the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac); as well as education NGO and institution, Teach for Malaysia; and Monfort Boys Town.

Though the MobileKids initiative, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is continuing its collaboration with Driven Communications founder and prominent Malaysian automotive blogger, Paul Tan, to promote safe road travelling with the Child Car Seat Rental Programme. The programme, spearheaded by Driven Communications in 2015, aims to educate families on road safety by providing child car seats for rental on a first-come-first-served basis. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s involvement in the initiative last year saw a contribution of 110 child car seats. This year, the company is contributing an additional 135 child car seats worth RM50,000, bringing it to a total contribution of 245 child car seats.

With a firm belief that the arts has the power to build bridges and foster creativity and innovation, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has been a long-time supporter of the Malaysian performing arts scene. This year, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia announced an additional sponsorship of RM120,000 to KLPac. As one of the founding sponsors of KLPac, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has contributed over RM1.2 million to date to promote the Malaysian performing arts scene.

Recognising the importance of education in empowering future leaders of the nation, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is also contributing over 200 units of pre-owned computers to primary schools and non-profit organization, Teach for Malaysia. Through this initiative, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia aims to enrich the learning experience among students. Teach for Malaysia and Monfort Boys Town will receive 50 computers each, while three vernacular primary schools will each receive 35 computers.

Meanwhile, in support of initiatives undertaken by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s employees in the interest of society and the common good, the company also announced the continuation of its annual celebrations for children during festive occasions. As the first company in Malaysia that encourages its employees to share personally-selected gifts with children who are in need, the programme provides the opportunity for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia staff to bring cheer to underprivileged children.

Valuing sustainability as responsible corporate behaviour, Mercedes-Benz is committed to preserving the diversity of natural habitats for future generations. As such, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will extend its support to employees who will be involved in a beach cleaning programme schedules for later this year. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also supports its employees who participate in the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon. As a corporate sponsor of the marathon, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be donating RM20,000 to Hospis Malaysia.
