Have you forgotten about this car? Did you think it had stopped selling in Malaysia? Well good news for those of you looking for a sports sedan and still think this Lancer GT looks and plays the part for your drive enthusiasm.
This is the last edition of the Mitsubishi Lancer and it is still selling in Malaysia. With a 2-liter engine mated to a slick shifting CVT and a sports-tuned suspension with 18-inch wheels shod with 215/45 R18 tires and large 4-wheel disc brakes, this sedan remain an aggressive twisty-road tamer.
This recently overlooked by many buyers Lancer was Mitsubishi’s best-selling car in Malaysia until 2012. Mitsubishi’s tough race/rally cars were among the world’s championship cars and they were based on this Lancer. Mitsubishi however pulled out of world rally competition about 10-years ago, although development continues for production classes that keep its race-bred Lancer Evolution model a feared performer.
Handling is taken cared by MacPherson strut front suspension with a focus on enhancing rigidity while reducing weight and lowering the roll center.
The Lancer’s sophisticated trailing-arm type multi-link rear suspension is a major factor in providing ride and handling characteristics that might be expected from a more expensive vehicle.
The Lancers crisp, fluid steering response is thanks to the integration of the highly rigid body structure and of course the new rack and pinion steering system itself.
This Lancer GT not only tames curves, but does so with the confident stopping power of the same brakes as the larger outgoing Outlander SUV, 11.6-in. (294 mm) vented discs in front and 11.9-in. (302 mm) solid discs in rear.
To date there has been no real confirmation from Mitsubishi Motors Japan if there will be a new version of this iconic nameplate coming to showrooms globally, but there are string rumours that Mitsubishi is planning a revival with a possible concept car that will carry the Lancer nameplate, if demand remains strong for the sedan market which has been overtaken by the rising SUV trend.
