A website in China apparently got to know that Honda has filed to trademark the name UR-V in that country. Subsequently a connection to the Concept D has been made, a vehicle unveiled during last year’s Auto Shanghai described as “being developed exclusively for the China domestic market as a top-end SUV model that offers high-quality driving and a spacious cabin.”
Other than that, there is not a lot of information to run with but Honda does mention that the vehicle will be equipped with advanced safety technologies and features. It wouldn’t be surprising if this means that Honda Sensing technology will make a full appearance in the ‘UR-V’.
Apparently it will be built by Guangqi Honda (previously known as Guangzhou Honda), one of the two local and Honda joint venture companies assembling and selling the Japanese carmaker’s products in China, the other being Dongfeng Honda.
The same report suggests that the powertrain will be an option of either a 2.4-litre (naturally aspirated) or a 2.0-litre turbo engine mated to a six-speed auto. An all-wheel drive configuration is optional. Prices will start from $38,400 (RM150,642), while the better specified variants will reach $65,200 (RM255,778).
We are likely to get more information about the UR-V at the Beijing Motor Show next month (25 April – 4 May), where it is expected to make its premier in production specification.
