Nissan has started production of an all-new compact and lightweight 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine at the Iwaki Plant in Japan. What’s special about this engine is that this specific engine will be used specifically by Infiniti vehicles.
Its 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo specification will be tuned to produce a choice of two different outputs: 300 or 400 horsepower. We can see it first being fitted in the 2016 Infiniti Q50 sports sedan. It will also be available for the all-new Q60 sports coupe, which was recently unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The latter will maintain Infiniti’s role as a leader in the sports coupe segment.
While the trend in recent years have always been towards down-sizing, Infiniti chose a V6 construction as Nissan already have such a strong history with V6 engines as underlined by having listed in the “Ward’s 10 Best Engines” ranking for 14 years (from 1995 to 2008).
The new engine – part of the new VR-series powertrain family – will be the lightest, most powerful, cleanest and most fuel efficient V6 engine that Infiniti has ever offered.
