If Colonel John ‘Hannibal’ Smith and gang were still around, do you think they’d still be using an old windowless GMC Vandura van? Of course not, BA Baracus would need something larger, and definitely faster, to outrun the military police. We think they’d go for something like the ABT-tuned 2016 Volkswagen Transporter T6.
While ABT is more known for work with potentially sportier Audi cars, or VW Group family, the Volkswagen Transporter gets special attention as it celebrated its 65th year in 2015. This particular model has also been a long-time servant for Abt, as elaborated by Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO for the company, “The Volkswagen van has been with us for a very long time – as our team bus in motorsports or for tuning.”
It’s worth noting that Abt is an even older company – 120 years!
The special anniversary edition of the VW van has 235 hp instead of the stock 203 hp. The 2-litre turbo diesel’s torque stands at 490 Nm and can tow a fair bit of mass. Also available is the 2-litre TDI now with 180 hp.
And the anniversary edition, which can also be ordered based on the Audi Q3 and Audi TT in a similar design, does not only show the exclusive “120 Years ABT“ lettering, it also reveals its sportiness through an aerodynamic kit specially developed for the T6.
The rear skirt set with its four-pipe exhaust system, the rear wing but also the front grille add-on, front skirt add on and side skirts make it appear even more dynamic. For a lower centre of gravity, ABT uses special springs and Bilstein coilovers also useful during hard cornering.
The aggressive-looking vehicle uses 275/35 R20 tyres that wraps custom alloys.
