Over 1,200 Porsche 911 sports cars paraded through the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on July 28, 2013, as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic coupe. The original plan was to parade at least 911 Porsche 911s, but the target number was almost immediately exceeded when the celebrations were disclosed. Due to deluge of interested parties wanting to join the event, an incredible 1,208 examples of the Porsche 911 were brought in by the Porsche Club GB and the Silverstone Classic into the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. This breathtaking spectacle was led by a number of famous Porsche personalities while tens of thousands of fans looked on. Among them were Mark Porsche, son of 911 designer Ferdinand Alexander ‘Butzi’ Porsche and great-grandson of the founder Ferdinand Porsche as well as a number of the sports carmakers iconic racing drivers. Famous Porsche drivers who joined the parade were former F1 driver and five-time Le Mans winner, Derek Bell MBE; victor of the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hours, Richard Attwood; and legendary and racer John Fitzpatrick.
What made the parade an even greater event were the Porsche owners and enthusiasts who drove in almost every possible derivative of 911, both from the past and the present. Models like the classic RS, RSR, GT, Speedster, Targa and Turbo variants to the Carrera. The parade also featured a number of unique race and rally versions of the 911 over the years.
