The Holden Kingswood was first shown to the Australian public in 1968. Then in 1971 the Kingswood arrived in Malaysia in limited numbers. Its high asking price against the British brands that dominated Malaysia at the time and public perception gave it instant status as a luxury desirable sedan. It was only affluent Malaysians that could own one.
It was bigger and handled better than its contemporaries of the day. The British built Ford Cortina, the Volvo 240, the Mercedes 220 and the Nissan Cedric were the segment market leaders at the time.
In total more than 485,000 units were built and sold globally and it remains the biggest selling Holden model of all time. Today all the units that were brought to Malaysia seemed to have disappeared from our roads and our classic car owners clubs. Where have they gone?
