Volvo July sales rose 14 percent to 33,650 cars, citing strong growth in China and Europe. The automaker’s European sales increased 17 percent to 17,056 units last month because of strong demand for the V40 hatchback, Volvo said in a statement recently.

“Several European markets increased retail sales with most of the growth explained by the Netherlands and the V40 model,” Volvo said. The automaker has introduced a new V40 variant, the V40 Cross Country. Volvo said the United States was its largest single market last month, with almost 6,000 cars sold, up 3 percent. The United States was just ahead of China where sales increased by 62 percent to 4,640. Sales for the January to July period were down by 3 percent to 242,767. In June, they were down 10 percent from a year earlier.
