Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (PGMSB), the country’s first EEV certified automotive manufacturing plant, was officially opened today as the national car company takes a step closer to becoming a global player.
PGMSB, which began construction in March 2013 and spanning 64,000 square metres, include an investment of RM1.3 billion to build and equip.
“PGMSB is one of Perodua’s main transformation initiatives to become a globally competitive brand in terms of quality, cost management and delivery,” Perodua Chairman YBhg Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said.
Perodua’s latest and most advanced manufacturing plant was officiated today by the Minister of Domestic Trade Co-operatives and Consumerism, YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, representing Deputy Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
Also present was the Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr Makio Miyagawa; Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd., Chairman Mr Koichi Ina; Perodua President & CEO, YBhg Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh and PGMSB Managing Director, YBhg Datuk Ahmad Suhaimi Hashim.
The plant, which was constructed in 2013 began production in August 2014 has already delivered 138,000 Perodua Axia to respective customers nationwide as of December 2015.
“The design, technology and concept of this facility are based on the “Simple, Slim and Compact” philosophy,” Asmat said.
“Simple” here refers to the work process which is easy to understand and implement; while “Slim” refers to efficiency and dedication towards the elimination of wastages – in all forms – and “Compact” refers to the maximisation of space for optimum production,” he explained.
Asmat said that the plant and its people would serve as a role model to the rest of Perodua as it attempt to further improve its operations on a global level.
