Next Level Drifting In Malaysia
Review and Pictures by DSF
Did you know that Malaysia has one of the best drifters in the world. Nope, this is not a person moving from town to town aimlessly. He is a person who is able to take control of a car into a corner with its rear tailing the nose in a sort of a rear wheel controlled ‘dance’. This ‘dance’ shows the ability of a driver to control his machine around some well constructed bends with the aim of beating some other individuals who together try and outdo each other without allowing their cars to become scrap metal and mangled plastic bits.
Drifting started as a casual late night sport in Japan between car race enthuciasts looking for adrenalin release beyond the race track. But this endangers other road users and so some American chaps came along and realised some financial potential and made this into a thriving spectator sport that has taken the world by a significant storm. DRIFT is now growing fast and its appeal goes right thru most ages (5 to 50years) and is allowing grassroot motorsports to move forward.
Coming back to Malaysia’s top DRIFT champion, here he is from his recent win in Serdang Agro Park late last year. Tunku Djan Ley. After being ‘robbed’ of the championship in Bangkok months before at the 1st DRIFT championship, he came back strong and smiling with an easy win in KL.
