Could this be the replacement for the popular and ageing Hyundai Getz in Malaysia. This is Hyundai’s new B-segment MPV, named the ix20. The ix20 is the second European designed Hyundai model to adopt Hyundai’s new ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language which helps differentiate it from the boxy ‘minivan’ image typically associated with the segment. On sale from mid November in Europe, the ix20 is expected to attract young families with its excellent all-round package: class-leading fuel economy and low CO2 emissions; the latest in active and passive safety technologies; and the company’s groundbreaking Five Year warranty.
Few details were available about the ix20, which was designed and developed at the Korean automaker’s European research and development center in Russelsheim, Germany.
And by designed, what Hyundai actually means (but doesn’t say) is that it took the Kia Venga and made some exterior and interior styling changes. On the outside, that translates to a new face with a hexagonal grille inspired by the now very popular Tucson SUV’s unique tail lights and exterior mirrors, plus new alloy wheel designs.
Similarly, changes to the interior are limited to the trim and the styling of the steering wheel, instrument binnacle, air-condition / audio systems and door panels. Welcome to the wonderful world of badge-engineering. Like the Venga, the ix20 will be offered in Europe with a choice of 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter diesel and petrol engines.
