Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia today unveiled the all-new Lancer Sportback hatch at a local restaurant to attending media and business partners. Launching the vehicle was Mitsubishi’s chief executive officer, Tetsuya Oda who said that the arrival of the all-new Lancer Sportback completed the wide-ranging Mitsubishi family in Malaysia. “The all-new Lancer Sportback joins the acclaimed Lancer sedan line-up and the outstanding Lancer Evolution sports sedan. Mitsubishi now offers a complete range of vehicles in the executive and family car segment, and we can meet just about any requirement any car owner could ever have,” Oda said. The all-new Lancer Sportback continues the Lancer initiative of bringing life-saving five-star safety to the executive car market – just like its sedan brother – with ABS braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), ASC with Traction Control and the availability of twin airbags.
Designed in Europe to meet the exacting standards of Continental car connoisseurs, the Lancer Sportback will appeal to all car consumers who seek stunning style, pert performance, five-star safety and the versatility of a hatch-style body in their vehicle.
“This car looks fantastic and is designed to appeal to the style-conscious driver who enjoys an active lifestyle and demands great looks, great flexibility and great safety and performance from their vehicle,” Oda said. One engine only will be available in the Lancer Sportback. A new 2.4-litre engine just released in the premium Lancer Aspire sedan (Japan domestic market). Generating 170bhp of power @ 6,000 rpm and 226 Nm of torque @ 4,100 rpm, the Lancer Sportback offers a more powerful, yet more economical driving experience than many of its competitors.
The Lancer Sportback offers a large rear cargo area, with a handy rear seat auto folding function means it is possible to fold the rear seats separately (60/40 split) via a lever located near the tail gate, providing even more storage space. The Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback received the top end specifications and features that consumers have come to expect from the high quality Japanese-manufactured Lancer line-up.
The Sportback offers all the safety and engineering features listed before for secure, relaxed driving and adds a plethora of creature comforts – three-way adjustable driver’s seat, central locking, front and rear power windows, air-conditioning, FM/AM Tuner with CD and MP3 compatibility and audio jacks, and cruise control with steering mounted controls. It also includes rain sensing wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, lip spoiler, leather wrapped steering wheel and a rear aero kit spoiler.
Priced at just RM129,363.80(without insurance and roadtax) this Lancer Sportback gives Mitsubishi in Malaysia an edge over Protons all new Inspira sedan which is now carrying the Lancer sedan’s DNA.
