What’s Special about Ford’s Turbocharged Engines?

An iconic Mustang dashes down the highway. A deft Fiesta navigates downtown traffic. A Ford GT screams down the race track. A capable Ford Kuga fords a stony creek. But what’s under the hood powering these cars? All that oomph comes from an EcoBoost engine.

Traditional engine thinking is that size equals power, and that’s why Ford’s EcoBoost technology has amazed the skeptics. While the smaller size of EcoBoost engines delivers greater fuel economy, they deliver the power of larger engines. The secret behind the sizzle is the combination of direct fuel injection, turbocharging, variable valve timing and a sophisticated suite of software.

Oh, and  Ford EcoBoost engines can deliver significantly better fuel economy than the larger-displacement naturally aspirated engines they replace. They really are small, but mighty. One of the most unforgettable EcoBoost-powered moments was the Formula Ford EcoBoost at the Nürburgring. The specially tuned 1.0L EcoBoost race car clocked the 11th fastest time at Germany’s legendary circuit. Its impressive time of just 7’22” beat the likes of the Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari Enzo.

Ford is preparing to take the EcoBoost to the track again. In 2016, Ford will return to Le Mans armed with the all-new Ford GT supercar to compete in LM GTE Pro class, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Ford’s 1966 overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. On top of its advanced aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction, the Ford GT will feature a new twin-turbocharged Ford EcoBoost V6 – the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever.

You don’t need a Ford GT supercar to feel the full power of Ford’s EcoBoost engine. At the end of this year, Ford’s Asia Pacific region will have EcoBoost engines available in more than 20 nameplates. From the Fiesta to the mighty Mustang, there’s an EcoBoost-powered vehicle to suit your needs.
