Volvo’s Plans for Using Augmented Reality Are Already in Place

Microsoft unveiled their HoloLens a while ago, which brought some life into the idea of augmented reality (which combines the real world with virtual objects) and now it seems Volvo wants to be part of the push for this new technology. The Swedish marque imagines the HoloLens as a car configurator in markets where their cars are sold with options.

Of course, at this time, their partnership with Microsoft seems more like a marketing stunt, but in the near future, Volvo plans to bring the technology to its own factory floors as well. They hope it will allow workers to see information about the parts they’re installing in real time and perhaps later play a big part in autonomous driving.
