0Porsche Cayenne Diesel – Setting standards without sacrificing fuel economy
The Porsche Cayenne Diesel offers a driving experience that is typical of a Porsche and yet is altogether new. It is emotional like a sports car in its dynamic performance and sound. The smooth running properties and resonant sound of the 3-liter 6-cylinder engine attain a level comparable to that of previous Porsche V8 engines.
Powered by a 3-liter 6-cylinder diesel engine, this 2110-kg luxury SUV remains a fuel-efficient vehicle with an average fuel consumption of just 6.8-litres per 100km. This means this vehicle has a total range of more than 1,000 km when driven diligently which is not easy to do with a SUV that performs like a sports car.
The Porsche Cayenne Diesel now has more power and torque coupled with a reduction in fuel consumption and therefore an increased maximum range. Thanks to a larger turbocharger, the maximum power output of the three-litre V6 engine has increased to 245hp, whilst the maximum torque has increased by 30Nm to an impressive 550Nm. This is why this SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds which is as fast as a sports sedan and yet return a comfortable ride.
Completely new algorithms were developed to control rail pressure, injection volumes and times with the result that diesel-typical combustion characteristics have practically disappeared altogether: This diesel engine runs harmoniously with low vibration and without any annoying diesel-like background noise. On the contrary, its bass tones are strong and low in frequency, just like the sound that is familiar from other Porsche eight-cylinder engines.
At a starting selling price of RM640,000, this luxury SUV should be test driven before being dismissed.
