Audi’s Ingolstadt plant has just rolled out an Audi A4 Avant 3.0 TDI quattro in Misano Red – and this wouldn’t have made headlines except that it is the five-millionth Audi A4. It was in 1994 that the A4 model name was adopted. At the Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm plants, the very popular A4 makes up a large share of production capacity. Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management for Production at AUDI AG, considers this to be major milestone.
He boasts that all the variants of the A4 are fuel-efficient, stylish and are extremely successful in their class. He also said Audi’s team and production system will ensure that the model will continue to reap success. In 1994, Audi started to build the A4 model line at its Ingolstadt site. It was only in 2007 that the model was produced at Neckarsulm as part of the production turntable.
Currently, the Ingolstadt plant produces the A4 Sedan, A4 Avant, A4 allroad quattro, S4 Sedan and S4 Avant. The Neckarsulm plant also builds the A4 Sedan. Peter Mosch, Chairman of the General Works Council, said that due to the success of the A4 model family, its two main production plants are fully occupied and the workers’ jobs are protected. Mosch said that Audi’s success stems from its employees who “invested so much know-how, quality awareness and dedicated work in the A4”.
