The Rally of Queensland is just hours away from flag off. Confirmed entry list stands at a total of 96 participants. The Pennzoil GSR Racing Team is looking to do well under the 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) A6 class with their well prepared Proton Satria Neo. The crew is better prepared this time around from the 1st round in Malaysia last month. We spoke to team driver and principal, Gunaseelan Rajoo. When contacted by phone he said “We are all set and ready for this coming weekend’s race”. He added that the team is looking forward to retaining the title they clinched with their Proton Satria Neo at Round 1 of the APRC in Malaysia under the A6 class of 1.6 cc and below. “It’s going to be a tough weekend with 6 cars entering in the 2WD class in this Rally Queensland, which is the 2nd round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship 2011” he added. The Pennzoil GSR Racing Team is sponsored by UMW PENNZOIL MALAYSIA, AIR ASIA, YOKOHAMA TYRES, AND CUSCO.Gunaseelan also mentioned that at the shakedown event this morning Friday, 13 May 2011 the car ran very well and the team was satisfied with the run. There were also 2 Air Asia’s lucky contest winners that were given the opportunity to ride the track with Guna. The 2 winners were Australians from Queensland. 1st to go on the taxi ride was Mr.Gary Teague from the Caloundra Iluka Learning and Leisure Center and 2nd was a big rally fan Mr Zolten from Gold Coast.
Mr Zolten said that it was one of the best experiences for him and he was looking forward to more of this as he knows how it feels to be in a rally car. Guna congratulated to the winners and thanked them for supporting motor rally sports and Air Asia. And so the countdown begins for Leg 2 of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship from the 12th to 15th of May 2011.
