The Q30 may be to Infiniti what the V40 was the Volvo. It’s a fresh approach for a company that has gone seemingly stagnant in their product design, resorting to nips and tucks in order to get by. And if it works out, it may help change Infiniti’s image for the better, and may pave the way for more interesting products to come.
It’ll be on offer with two different turbocharged petrol motor, sourced from Mercedes-Benz, as well as two diesel motors from either Mercedes-Benz or Renault. Given the nature of our market, we’ll probably recieve the 2.0-litre variant of the Q30, to complement the Q50s we get with the same motor.
The partnership between Daimler and Renault-Nissan may seem a little strange, but it comes with the fact that both companies hold 3.1 combined shares in each other’s stocks, meaning that tech sharing is in their best interests. The Q30 will be based on the A-Class platform, which showed it’s flexibility in forms like the GLA and CLA.
In the next few days, there’ll be more and more information released on the Q30, but for now we’ll have to make do with these renders and photos. It definitely promises to be an era-defining product for Infiniti, allowing them to shake off the perceptions they developed in the early 2000s.
