GreenTech Malaysia Work with Dutch Company to Roll Out Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

In line with the 11th Malaysia Plan’s strategic directive of catalysing the country’s green growth, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) today inked five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) encompassing the energy and transport sector at the 6th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM).

One of the more interesting MOUs signed was with The New Motion from the Netherlands. The objective of the deal is to roll out electric vehicle charging stations throughout Malaysia in as little time as possible, thus relieve owners and potential owners of electric vehicles of range anxiety associated with such vehicles.

Speaking on the partnership, The New Motion’s Founder, Ritsaart van Montfrans said, “The New Motion is a pioneer and market leader in offering charging solutions for electric vehicles. We already have over 18,000 charging stations across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, The United Kingdom and Norway. We are proud to partner with GreenTech Malaysia to bring our technical expertise to cater to the growing base of EV users in Malaysia.

At the moment, just under 100 electric vehicles operate in Malaysia, but GreenTech Malaysia’s CEO, Ir. Ahmad Hadri Haris told us that he was confident that Malaysia would reach its ambitious target of reducing emissions by 40% in terms of ëmissions intensity of Gross Domestic Product” by the year 2020 compared to 2005 levels.

To fast-track Malaysia’s acceptance of EVs, GreenTech Malaysia recently unveiled its own brand of EV charging stations, ChargEV, to provide greater charging convenience for EV users. ChargEV works with all electric vehicles sold in Malaysia, such as the Renaults Zoey and Twizy, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, BMW i8 and will work with newer releases by using compatible adapters. GreenTech hopes that the new infrastructure will encourage bigger players to bring in plug-in electric vehicles, which are increasingly common in European countries.

The collaboration with The New Motion represents GreenTech Malaysia’s further commitment to this cause by employing the experience and technical know-how of an international leader in EV charging stations to support the deployment of ChargEV. The partnership will also see the sharing of technical expertise that will enable the development of local charger hardware manufacturing, related sub-industries and components that will position Malaysia as the regional manufacturing leader.
