Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a new diesel engine which is likely to be offered on its best-selling models, namely Maruti Suzuki Swift and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire in India. This could be the same vehicle that Suzuki Malaysia wants to introduce locally.
The new diesel engine will be a 1.5-litre unit that has been codenamed as E15A. It will come equipped with the new-generation Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan that is expected to be launched in 2018. The upcoming versions of the Swift duo is codenamed as YSD. The car manufacturer is also working on a mid-cycle facelift of its Ertiga MPV, which is also likely to get the new engine option.
The new 1.5-litre diesel engine will be available alongside the existing 1.3-litre, Fiat-sourced diesel motor with new mild-hybrid technology dubbed as SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle). Just like the Swift duo, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will also receive a new 1.4 litre petrol engine codenamed K14C, along with the 1.5 litre diesel engine.
Besides the new powertrain option, the Maruti trio will also receive new exteriors and interiors as well as a new modular architecture which is said to be light in weight. This will, in turn, save the company’s manufacturing cost. With the help of the new light weight modular architecture, the company aims to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicles.
