At Volkswagen today launched the Polo Trophy today at its Rally Weekend event at the Setia City Convention Centre Carpark today. At just RM89,888, the VW Polo Trophy doesn’t cost more than the original but it looks better and has just a little more kit. The car ships with rally-inspired decals and blacked-out wing mirrors (as opposed to the body-coloured two-tone wing mirrors on the original) and on the inside, you get a 7-inch Blaupunkt Philadelphia 835 multimedia unit with navigation. The car also ships with high-quality Ecotint-treated windows. That’s plenty of extras considering you don’t pay more than you would for a vanilla Polo.
Under the hood, it’s still the same reliable 1.6-litre MPI engine that produces a respectable 105PS and 153Nm of torque. When paired to the 6-speed automatic, it makes for a package that can deliver both great fuel economy and punchy performance, depending on what’s needed. At it’s best, the engine will sip 6.3 litres of petrol every 100 kilometres. And when you put a WRC pro like Jari-Matti Latvala behind the wheel, things can get very interesting!
Jari-Matti Latvala kicked things off at the event by taking members of the media on a taxi ride around the tightly knit course and showing us what a potent combination his skills are when combined with the Volkswagen Polo Trophy.
The are only 100 units up for grabs, so head on down to the Setia City Convention Centre Carpark this Saturday and Sunday (5 & 6 September) to take a closer look at the car. While you’re there, experience the excitement of Volkswagen Rally as Malaysian drivers Leona Chin and Azrina Jane Abdullah will be there to take you for a crazy ride in the Polo Trophy.
