Volvo has introduced two new S80 T5 variants that are poised to turn heads and get hearts a-racing with increased performance and added features that make the iconic premium sedan even better, ensuring the model remains the Swedish carmaker’s top-of-the-line offering. The S80 T5 Powershift and the T5 Exclusive Powershift variants, which replace the existing S80 2.5T, are the most price-competitive cars in the Premium DE segment, and is a sedan that epitomises the perfect balance of luxury, intelligence, performance and world-class safety. The T5 2.0 Powershift variants are the fastest models in the DE segment’s 2.0L category. Indeed, both T5 variants come with more horsepower than the previous 2.5T, pushing out a roaring 240hp @ 5,500rpm and torque of 320@1800-5000 that propel them from 0-100 km/h in 7.7secs. To top it all off, the T5 Exclusive also comes standard with Volvo’s cutting-edge ‘Pedestrian Detection’ as well as new Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake, features that were unavailable in the previous variant.
Safety in Style
The Pedestrian Detection system, a world’s first, detects pedestrians on the road, warns the driver – and automatically applies 100% braking power at speeds up to 35 km/h if the driver does not respond in time. There’s also Collision Warning with its new Full Auto Brake feature. If your T5 approaches another vehicle from behind and you do not react, the system alerts you with audible and visual signals. If the risk of a collision continues to increase despite the warning, the brake support system, which works from 4 to 180 km/h, is activated.
The T5 Exclusive also features Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which activates at speeds above 30 km/h to automatically adjust the car’s distance to vehicles ahead. ACC is adjustable to five different time intervals to the vehicle ahead. Add Driver Alert Control (DAC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to the T5 Exclusive’s safety repertoire, and you have an intelligent sedan that epitomises Volvo’s acclaimed safety standards.
Safety features on both variants include Volvo’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which uses cameras mounted in the door mirrors to register if another vehicle is in the blind spot at the side of the car. This intuitive safety feature helps the driver to prevent an accident from occurring. Luxury and Power
The T5’s exterior gives the sedan a long, wide and broad impression. The grille’s larger iron mark and the chrome trim on the front and rear eyeliner as well as at the lower door enhance the car’s distinctive impression and give it a look of unmatched luxury. As with the S80 2.5T, the T5 also includes a number of new design features on the inside. The interior expresses exclusivity and comfort, characterised by soft leather with matching stitching. The door panels follow this theme as well. The centre stack has a silk metal frame, contributing to the impression of sheer exclusiveness.
The T5 also has aluminium dials and the new four-spoke steering wheel’s décor trim with silk metal effect can be found in the gear selector and around the starter button. The T5 comes standard with leather steering while the T5 Exclusive is fitted with wooden steering. Aside from the 240hp generated by the 4-cylinder, 6-speed Powershift, turbo-powered engine, new in-house developed turbocharging technology, direct injection and twin variable camshafts make for a unique combination of low weight, low emissions and a high and broad performance range – all in a very compact format. Throw in a new Dynamic chassis setup that allows for precise control and minimal roll tendencies and you get a powerful sedan that’s comfortable enough to spend the night in. The T5 and T5 Exclusive also come standard with DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control), a stability-enhancing system that when necessary reduces engine torque and applies carefully calculated braking power to reduce the risk of a skid.
The Malaysian Market The all-new S80 T5 is priced at RM268,000 (OTR, without insurance) while the T5 Exclusive goes for RM295,000. You can treat yourself and give both variants a spin at all Volvo showrooms across Malaysia from July 15 onwards.
