Team StarChase driver Alexandre Imperatori took a lights-to-flag victory Round 7 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asis yesterday at the 5.6km Sepang International Circuit. Starting from pole, the Shanghai-based Swiss driver never looked back, pulling out a margin of 4.712 seconds by the chequered flag. He now has a six point lead at the top of the championship leader board. Second across the line was LKM Racing Team’s Keita Sawa of Japan, third in the points, with team mate Darryl O’Young of Hong Kong in third. Fourth was Team Jebsen’s Rodolfo Avila of Macau who is now second in the points, 11 ahead of Sawa.
In Class B, Davide Rizzo of WoYo Racing took his third successive victory, with Jeffrey Lee in second who held firm under intense pressure from third-placed category finisher Wang Jian Wei of Team BetterLife. Wang still leads the Class B championship, with a 31 point lead from Team Kangshun’s Ringo Chong. Imperatori was delighted to be back in the championship lead: “I decided to push a bit at the start to open a gap, and then I was mindful of my tyres and realized after a few laps I had to take care of them. It’s nice to be back at the top of the table but I’m not looking at the championship at the moment. I’m looking at winning races through the season.”
