Volkswagen Group Malaysia has lent its hand in supporting the River Jungle Marathon 2011 in line with the brand’s philosophy of promoting a healthy lifestyle and in support of harmony with the environment. Europe’s number one passenger car manufacturer supported the full marathon by providing vehicles to ensure the participants enjoy a safe and pleasurable run in an eco-friendly environment. The Volkswagen brand is the true representation of Das Auto or The Car where there is a great focus on environmental protection, innovation and efficiency. The brand sees the necessity to increase the awareness and shape the behaviour for environmental protection through Think Blue. Volkswagen Group Malaysia’s Managing Director Mr. Ricky Tay said the marathon provides a unique opportunity for the Volkswagen Brand to present itself to the public.
“As part of Volkswagen Group Malaysia’s growth strategy, we will be pro-active when it comes to eco-friendly activities. Volkswagen is known as The People’s Car and it is only befitting if we support events such as the River Jungle Marathon as it reaches out to those who appreciate such lifestyles. We were also attracted by unique features of this boutique marathon that focuses on the love of running and the beauty of nature, and not just on winning,” Tay said.
“Volkswagen Group Malaysia recorded an increase of 225 per cent growth in retail sales from January to August compared to the same period last year. This clearly shows positive brand sentiment and sponsoring community events is one ways of saying thank you to the Malaysian public for their undivided support,” he added.
Among the vehicles provided were the Touareg, Eos, Polo, Polo GTI and Golf for the marathon. The vehicles were used to ferry runners who needed a lift from one check point to another, as safety cars and medical support. Open to only 500 participants, the River Jungle Marathon’s 42km route is one of the most beautiful marathon routes in Malaysia. Held in a location just 20 minutes from the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the marathon route provides a breath-taking view of a landscape with a mix of terrain and geographical features including valleys, rivers, dams and mountains.
