Remember the Mirai? Toyota’s poster child for the hydrogen age? Well, the Mirai is just one week away from customers who wish to order the car, and ordering is done exclusively through a website. Rated at up to 300 miles range on a single tank of hydrogen, when combined with the proposed hydrogen infrastructure for California it looks like a pretty solid proposition.
The numbers are going to be throttled back, as being a new technology Toyota likely wants to control the number on the market in order to monitor and understand how these models function in the real world, as well as any potential problems.
But for the troubles of being what is effectively a beta tester, these customers will enjoy a number of privileges. The 24-7 customer call support is a pretty common service to offer customers, but there’s also an 8-year or 100,000 mile warranty on components of the hydrogen fuel cell system.
Also interesting is that Toyota is providing up to 15,000 USD worth of hydrogen fuel to the customers, across a period of three years. Talk about a good deal. Bookings will be opened for the US market on the 20th of July.
