The current total OEM market volume for alloy wheels in Malaysia in 2010 stands at 1.8 million units and of the total, one million units were produced by local manufacturers while the balance of 800,000 had to be imported to meet demand by local car manufacturers and assemblers
OMI’s new alloy wheel plant has the potential to contribute annual revenue of RM150 million when fully completed by 2015 and running at full capacity of 1 million units. This is on top of the RM100 million revenue currently generated by OMI’s existing steel wheel manufacturing and wheel module assembly business. OMI currently has three plants – Shah Alam and Tanjung Malim (steel wheel manufacturing) and Rawang (Wheel module assembly). The new alloy wheel plant will be the fourth.
