Volkswagen Malaysia put out more new cars and opened new showrooms than any other brand in Malaysian for 2011. With some 17 new showrooms around the country (East and West Malaysia) and great new products launched, they managed to record a very positive 7300 units delivered. In just 1 year they have beaten Peugeot with their industry best 5-year warranty and breakdown package for every new model sold. Peugeot meanwhile is trying very hard to clear stocks of the ageing 207 sedan (which is a rebadged 13-year old product) by only now offering a longer warranty where initially they launched the car with just a 2-year warranty. This gives early 207 buyers a higher depreciation loss with their cars as current buyers get a longer warranty and so used values have dropped. We are sure in the next few months as holding stocks for the 207 pileup from lack of sales and interest, there will be heavy further discounting and overtrade done to clear stocks and this will further reduce the used value of the 207 in the market thus creating further financial losses for buyers of Peugeot cars in Malaysia.
Volkswagen is also catching up fast with the popular Japanese brands with their product features, safety and of course German quality. The upcoming launch of the VW Polo sedan will boost sales even further and put Peugeot stocks to pileup even more.
